Who can attend MEGA Camp?
Any children entering kindergarten through sixth grade in the 2009-2010 school year are welcome to attend MEGA Camp. Even though we meet on the campus of Townline Elementary, children from any school, neighborhood or church are welcome to attend!
Is there a cost to attend MEGA Camp?
MEGA Camp is free!! It is a gift from the sponsoring organizations and their volunteers to the community.
When is MEGA Camp?
MEGA Camp is Monday - Thursday, August 3-6, from 6:30 - 8:30 pm each night.
Where is MEGA Camp?
MEGA Camp meets on the campus of Townline Elementary (at the corner of 60th Street & Division Avenue).
What will my child be doing each night?
Each night begins in the gymnasium. Children participate through singing upbeat songs with fun motions and hear a Bible story from our large group teacher. From there, they break into their teams or groups and learn about their sport or art activity. After about a half hour of instruction and practice, the teams or groups break for snack and huddle time. Children are served healthy snacks and spend some time with their coaches discussing how they can apply the night's Bible lesson to their lives. After Huddle Time, the teams or groups have another half hour of instruction and practice. We end the night together with some more singing.
How do I know my child will be safe at MEGA Camp?
Your child's safety is our highest priority. All of our volunteer staff are trained in child safety procedures and undergo background checks. Also, there are several trained medical personnel at the camp each night in case of medical emergency. Fortunately, in the two years of MEGA Sports Camp, they've only had to distribute band-aids!
Can my child participate in more than one sport or art activity?
No, children must choose one of the six activities offered and will participate in that activity through the entire week of camp. The skills taught build on the previous night's teaching, so it is especially helpful if children attend camp all four nights. Also, children are with the same small group all week, allowing them to form relationships with their leaders and other children.
I missed the first night - can I still come?
Absolutely!! Even though the skills are built each night at camp, new children are welcome to join in at any time.
I am not pre-registered - can I still come?
Absolutely!! Pre-registration is preferred, but registration is available every night at camp. You will want to arrive early to make sure everything is completed before camp begins. Parents are asked to come with your child(ren) to register and complete the necessary paperwork.
